Sukarno (1901 - 1970) was Indonesia's first president and a leader of the independence struggle against Dutch colonialism. He was known for an autocratic leadership system nicknamed "Guided Democracy", for an aggressive foreign policy under the banner of anti-imperialism, and as a promoter of the Non-Aligned Movement. As a curious fact, he had only one name, which was common for people on the island of Java.
